Driving economically is largely about being methodical and choosing the right gear at all times. Swedish eco-driving expert and Volvo Trucks partner Boije Ovebrink offers his best tips:

• Harness the living force: Utilise the vehicle’s speed. Freewheel when you can, lifting your foot completely off the accelerator.
• Avoid unnecessary stops: Focus your attention far ahead and read the road in advance. This will give you plenty of time to adjust your speed ahead of a roundabout or gradient, for instance.
• Don’t exceed 82 km/h: When you approach speeds of about 84-85 km/h air resistance is much greater. So keep your speed down.
• Use I-Shift: Volvo’s auto-shift manual transmission is lightning-quick and its microprocessor ensures that you’re always in the right gear. It’s a superb and convenient aid.
