ABOUT THE COMPETITION

Dedicated to fuel efficiency and environmental care.

For decades now, Volvo Trucks has had a strong focus on fuel efficiency and protection of the environment. In the company we constantly do what we can to optimize our engines, trucks and services in order to help our customers save fuel.

However, the most important person when it comes to radically reducing fuel consumption in the short term is the driver. A driver trained in fuel-efficient driving techniques generally uses 5-10% less fuel – and similarly cuts CO2 emissions and costs – compared to other drivers.

To stimulate fuel-efficient driving and reward especially skilled drivers, Volvo Trucks has is hosting a global competition. The competition is about driving as economically as possible on a specified route.

What can you win?

The honour of being best in class is a cut above just about everything, isn’t it? In addition the drivers will be competing for some great Volvo prizes. The best drivers from each country will travel to Volvo’s home town Gothenburg on the 20th-22nd of October to compete for the world title. The winner of the entire competition will be invited to bring along one person on a Volvo experience somewhere in the world, worth approximately $15,000!

Rules for the final series

  • The contestants will drive a left-hand drive tractor with I-Shift, semi-trailer and GCW 40 tonnes
  • The vehicle must be driven in a secure, safe and professional manner and any violation may result in disqualification or fuel penalty
  • The use of engine braking and the I-Shift lever is determined by the driver
  • Other equipment such as air conditioning, fan etc. is not to be touched by the driver
  • Any use of wipers, heated mirrors, etc. must be based on the weather. All driving must be performed safely and this is determined by the competition management on the day of the competition
  • Cell phones are not allowed in the cab while competing
  • Fuel consumption will be measured using Dynafleet
  • The results will be measured in terms of overall fuel consumption to two decimal points (NOTE: the results will not be measured according to average fuel consumption). If two finalists record the same fuel consumption, time will be conclusive and the shortest time wins
